Meet the Team – Amartya Yeachuri

Thirdly, it’s time to meet Project Manager Amartya, one of the team’s more experienced brewers and – crucially – the man making sure that everything runs like clockwork! Master minute taker, meeting chair extraordinaire, excels on Excel… however you want to put it, Amartya’s kept everything flowing since the start of the project, both via actual organisation and simply keeping the team fuelled with Altoids!

Tell us a bit about yourself and your brewing journey up to this point?
My name is Amartya Yeachuri, from Hyderabad, a city in India. I’ve worked with microbreweries in my hometown for a couple of years and decided to improve on my technical knowledge, thus pursuing my Masters in Brewing and Distilling at Heriot-Watt University. I love being a brewer, working in breweries is my happy place. The smell of a good mash in, the pay-off of enjoying all the hard work when you make a really good beer, the social and entertaining environments that breweries are, it’s all I could ask for, and it makes me love my work.

What’s your role in the project?
I am the project manager, and am responsible for organizing team meetings, documenting and communicating information across all members of the project. It is also my duty to establish the project timeline, manage the project budget, and deliver the recipe, sales and marketing plans. Lastly, firefighting and being available to help whenever.

What are you hoping to get out of the project?
I hope to understand the intricacies of how breweries successfully operate, and learn all the intimacies of brewing beer all the way to how it should be packaged, marketed and sold. I also hope to learn how to be a leader, how to help and manage a team, and how to work as a unit in the most efficient and cooperative manner, while also having fun doing something I love. I’m also hoping to get a good job as a brewer from all the experience that this project will provide.

What part of the project are you most excited about?
The final brew on the big kit and the launch dates. Also, drinking our own beer after we finished making it.

Without giving away too many spoilers, describe the beer in three words?
Berry, berry good.

Hit us with an interesting fact about yourself?
I speak 4 different languages, 2 of which are only spoken in India. Guess away – you won’t get all of them for sure.

What’s your favourite Edinburgh pub?
Stewart Brewing’s taproom, hands-down. Love the beer, the vibe there, the pizza, the music and the environment – it’s all my kind of fun.

Tell us about your favourite beer?
I’m a big fan of stouts and IPAs, the Moose Mousse stout at Fierce beer and Radical Road at Stewart Brewing are some of my favourites.

You’ve got three songs to add to the brewery playlist – what are you picking?
Ma Baker – Boney M
Material Girl – Madonna
Kokomo – The Beach Boys

Outside the brewery, what can people find you doing?
Playing basketball/pool/table tennis (I’m quite good at all of them), or watching anime (I’m a true weeb), or sitting in a nice peaceful spot under a sunny sky with my kindle.

I’ve seen him go through different kinds of challenges to get to where he is now and I’m sure there is no limit for his growth. (Happy tears)
